Weight loss is not an easy thing for most people. Some people are an exception. As a matter
of fact it was extra hard for me to put any weight on when I was younger, and believe me, I tried. From eating lots of pasta and white bread, to having shakes with cream and raw eggs to having massive amounts of sugar. I used to be vegetarian too and in the end, the one thing that helped me to gain weight was meat – not a carnivore diet, just having regular meat in the diet.
And of course once I hit menopause I gained more weight again – just in the wrong places 😊 . This is the number 1 complaint I get from pre- and post-menopausal women: weight gain. But not only women in menopause struggle, which is difficult, because in most cases it is not what they eat. I had people in the clinic who are very overweight and have been vegans for 20 years with an active lifestyle, often devastated because everybody thinks that they eat at McDonalds all day. We are very much a ‘fat shaming’ society.
In a study of social interaction based on personality features and traits conducted by UCLA Media Communications
school. 89% of participants were more likely to trust a thin person over a fat person. 74% were less likely to listen to a fat persons view in general and 96% would not listen to advice about food from a fat
person. 72% believed that anyone who retains body weight eats too much fast food. 64% believed that fat people are more likely to lie. 97% believed that fat people were inactive (Couch Potatoes). The survey was conducted for advertising and public relations media strategies but from an ethical, moral and humanitarian point of view the results of this survey do not paint a world of compassion and tolerance.
So what can we do about weight gain? Following a fad diet is usually, at best, a temporary solution. So the most important
thing is to understand why we are gaining weight. There are many illnesses that can contribute to weight gain, medications, environmental factors, emotional factors… the list goes on. Also understanding that we are all different and come from different backgrounds is important.
Remember that it doesn’t matter if you want to lose 2 kilos or 20 kilos, a slow and steady approach is best. And in every case you need to make sure that your digestion is at optimum, including your microbiome. So regular colonics until you achieve your desired outcome can be extremely helpful.
