Hello ,
December and January have seen a lot of people travelling. Many of my friends had to go to Germany including myself.
I had hopes that a white Christmas would bring memories of childhood feelings of warmth and the joy of the festive season. For the most part it was true but the differences are becoming more
about geography and less about culture.
They say a change is as good as a holiday. Not sure if that is true when it comes to the rest and rejuvenation one achieves on a truly relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
None the less a change is what I got.
Many things I had completely forgotten about and it was those little things that made me feel so blessed that I live in Australia like the weather and the low population
numbers.
I also noticed some things that have clearly changed in Europe:
• I was in Germany in 2018 and the cost of living was 40% cheaper compared with Australia – now everything costs the same.
• German companies also have difficulties finding staff since covid (where have all the people gone?)
• German media regurgitates American propaganda and they have less access to independent news than we do here in Australia.
• Censorship is rampant
in Europe and the amount of free thinkers has drastically diminished.
But for most of us life is ok and if we think about it, we could say that our life is actually really good and that we don’t have much to complain about if we compare ourselves with people in other countries. Not just Europe but places like
India or Asia.
Well, life is funny that way – just when you think that everything is fine it provides you with some contrast – something unexpected – something that throws you off balance.
Like taking a long journey you didn’t plan for. Add to that some emotional times and you have the perfect basis for digestive problems. Being in planes and airports trying to find good food and eating differently while in another country are some of the challenges we have to face when travelling. I usually bring my own GF bread on the plane to have something to eat.
I was of
course eating a lot more (they still have fabulous food in Europe!) – proving my point that “you can’t eat for 10 cents and poop for 10 dollars” or the other way around “the more you eat the more you poop”.
Luckily the one thing I didn’t have to worry about while I was travelling was diarrhea as you can still get raw milk products in Germany which don't bother me even so I can't handle processed milk.
But if
diarrhea is an issue for you – travelling or not – check out the articles we published in January:
