The new year has come and gone. Here in the lucky country, Australia met the Christmas season with the joy of family and friends.
Perhaps not all of Australia, but in comparison with the rest of the world, very few lockdowns were in place over the holiday period.
Now Valentines is upon us. More Chocolate, but more importantly, more flowers. This means more positive emotions. It also means a stronger gut brain connection stimulated by olfactory sensation.
There have been countless studies on the link of positive emotions and flowers dating back to the renaissance. In fact, for more than 5000 years, people have cultivated flowers even though there is no great monetary reward for this costly behaviour from an agricultural perspective.
Flowers have immediate and long-term effects on emotional reactions, mood, social behaviours and even memory for both males and females. Which suggests that cultivated flowers are rewarding because they have evolved to rapidly induce positive emotion in humans.
The gut brain connection is strongest when amplified by olfactory responses. We know this when we smell the Sunday dinner in the oven. It is said that the aroma of our food helps to aid digestion through the olfactory membrane. Certainly, the burgeoning essential oil industry did not miss this connection.
Recently we added discussions about alternative forms of therapy like Past Life Theory, Ortho Bionomy and Kinesiology. The truth is that not all practices or procedures work for everyone. Out of these three Kinesiology seems to have made the most gains in credibility and recognition from legislatures in the largely undocumented world of healing that is not recognized as medicine.
The point is we have to seek information and use our radar for how it fits our needs. Is the modality working for you? Our world and the media world most notably, is full of nonsense; but it is full of SENSE as well. It is our critical minds and our desire for an ever improving and fulfilling life that is the truth.
Embrace the world that is here! There are so many wonderful things to enjoy. Don’t be afraid to try something new. If it doesn’t fit, you always know.
So, go and explore, knowing what you know and how it makes you feel.
Enjoy
