Hello ,
What a month it has been, the full moon was fantastic and especially engaging this month.
Some cultures believe that the stronger your connection to the full moon, the more your heart chakra is aligned. Your heart chakra is home to kindness and forgiveness. This means that a full moon is actually the perfect time to let go of negativity.
In the past many people have associated the full moon with insomnia (inability to sleep), or insanity (hence the terms lunacy and lunatic) and various "magical phenomena" such as lycanthropy. Werewolves ... ARH-WOOO
However, the discipline of Psychology, has determined that there is no strong evidence for effects on human behaviour around the time of a full moon. I have trouble with this concept just from observation. The moon creates tides in the ocean. Since we are made up of water like the oceans it would be impossible to assume that there would be no affect.
The May moon in particular is associated with romantic interaction. The word May in Latin, is Maius and named after the Greek Goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman era goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May.
Many of us plan a date night or some sort of romantic activity with our significant other on the full moon. After all, a full moon signals a time for mating and expressing ourselves sexually with the person we love, so we make time to honour the Divine and connect back to Source energy.
For the gardeners among us; many of us have been tidying up the summer overgrowth, letting the sun back in the garden and planting our winter veggies. Great time for planting and starting new projects.
In the Northern hemisphere May is the month of flowers. Everyone up there is in the garden as well.
The month of May is of significant importance to the Aboriginal Citizens of Australia because it marks the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum in which Australians voted overwhelmingly to amend the Constitution and allow the Commonwealth to make laws for Aboriginal people and include them in the census.
Pontiac’s Rebellion occurred in May of 1763 where a confederation of Native American tribes in the Great Lakes, Illinois, and Ohio regions rose up against the British. They were successful and persuaded the British government to change policies to be more favourable toward Native Americans and is considered to be milestone in the establishment of Natives as first Nation Peoples.
It seems May is a potent month historically even Labour Day, also known as Eight Hours Day in Tasmania and May Day in the Northern Territory, commemorates the granting of the eight-hour working day for Australians. It also recognizes workers' contributions towards the nation's economy.
Finally, the first Parliament of Australia opened in the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne 9 May 1901.
This month in the library we will discuss abdominal pain and ways to help. Because no matter what time of year it is, feeling uncomfortable in the belly is no fun. And the first step to getting better is always to get some knowledge so we can put our mind at ease and find hope.
See you next month and don’t forget to keep up with exercise and try some light warm and nourishing comfort food recipes now that it is getting colder.
Warm Regards,
